Hey, I wanted to start off the creative forums by giving you guys some tips on building, with some screenshots! Hurray!
Now, what's this?
It's a wall. What's it here for? It's going to demonstrate the tips I have.
Here you can clearly see a smaller wall, and a large wall.(And a cow.)
So, Here's a simple question, which one looks the better?
I'm going to bet that you're saying the one to the right, why? Because it's large. It's gigantic, and that's the first tip. Scale allows you to add more detail, and makes builds look generally good. It takes effort to make something small look good, but it's easy to make something big do so. If you're making a tower, or a wall, make it big, and you'll watch it come out better.
Here, you can see the next point, which improves on the earlier models. To make anything good, you have to stray away from simplicity. Here, I've managed to make both the smaller and the larger wall look better, by adding some REALLY simple details. You can never give a build too much detail, so put care into it, and it's sure to come out good.
Irregularity.
Builds look a lot better if it's not the same everywhere.
Here, I've covered up a few of the holes, added a few villagers, and trust me, it looks better than covering up all the holes or adding villagers to all of them. If you're making a house, perhaps you should consider that it doesn't have to look the same on both sides.
And the last picture of the wall, comes to a final point.
Always finish your builds, and never give it up until you actually think it looks good. You can make a house, say "Meh, It looks fine" and then walk away. But that's no fun. If you end up saying meh, You should probably rethink the build and try to make it better.
(There's a part coming on roofs, and a general house-how to guide coming along later.)
